Question about urban and rural areas

Q) Do you perceive any differences in policing needs & priorities between urban and rural areas?

A) The general principles of policing are the same no matter what the area. These are of upholding the law, of ensuring the safety of all law abiding citizens and of fairness. There are, however, differences in the way in which these principles manifest themselves. In rural area crime rates are generally low (although since the density of population is also low it would be expected that the number of crimes would appear to be lower), but there are just as many tensions in society. The introduction of police community support officers has been a great success and has given people in both rural and urban areas more confidence by having a police presence.
